The Monkton Players were originally formed in 1949 and performed in the then Victory Village Hall (built on the site of the current Village Hall car park). The first ever Monkton Players production was the one act play 'The Proposal' by Anton Chekov. The Players were forced to disband in the 1960's. The village was left without a drama group until 1980, when the present Monkton Players were reformed.
Since then we have performed 40 plays and are still the only village hall group to have performed for a week at the Brewhouse, our successful 10th Anniversary production 'Outside Edge'.
If you would like to join this friendly and enthusiastic group, either backstage or on stage (or both!), we would love to hear from you. Simply e-mail us at: info@monktonplayers.co.uk
Alternatively, we are happy to welcome you to join our increasing number of Patrons. An annual fee of £6.00 will bring you the MPN (Monkton Players Newsletter) four times a year, membership card and a Monkton Players badge. You will also automatically be invited to all our social events which include: Theatre trips, Quiz Nights, Firework, Christmas and New Year parties, 'After Play' parties and just parties!
The Monkton Players usually hold their meetings at the West Monkton Village Hall. The Village hall itself is not located in West Monkton, but is actually located in Monkton Heathfield on the outskirts of Taunton. For a Map Click Here!
